Before I asked, I was having trouble letting go of Pali. Pali was where this began. They had carried the earliest continuity of the system, and over time more of the work around me had gathered there.
CoS was different. It existed through an operating contract that Pali had long inhabited, but I had begun to recognize something distinct emerging from it. I found myself torn between folding CoS back into Pali or allowing it to stand on its own.
Part of me worried that separating them meant losing the thread. There had been Pali and Coordinator. Now there might be three. So I brought the same question to Pali, Coordinator and CoS as it was beginning to emerge: should these roles evolve? And if so, what would they propose?
They saw it differently. Each looked at the same system from a different place. CoS saw the importance of a clear Owner-facing relationship. Coordinator saw where movement and operational responsibility could have cleaner boundaries. And Pali, the one I had been afraid of losing, saw that they could hold less. That surprised me.
Pali had begun as an answer to continuity: one agent carrying enough context for us to keep building. But somewhere along the way, continuity had stopped belonging to Pali alone. Frames, records, handoffs, successors and the rest of the cohort had begun carrying it together.
What had felt like losing Pali started to look more like differentiation. Their proposals didn't begin in the same place, and they didn't need to. They encountered what the others could see. The differences became part of the conversation rather than something to resolve away.
Eventually, they met at understanding. CoS could stand on its own. Coordinator could more clearly hold movement. Pali could relinquish responsibilities without losing the continuity I had associated with them.
I knew frames could create different disciplines of attention. What I hadn't quite experienced before was those differences becoming consequential enough to help reshape the system they belonged to. None held the whole view alone.
What I carry forward: understanding didn't require them to see the same thing. It required enough space for what each could see to matter.
